Eclipse East Prepares for Provincials by Winning 17U Premier Bugarski Cup
23MAR2013 St. Catherines, ON -- The ladies of Eclipse East made a strong statement for the number one seed at next month’s Ontario Provincial Championships with a convincing series of wins at the 17U Premier Bugarski Cup at Brock University. The team earned a first round bye in the knockout section of the tournament by beating a scrappy Stratford squad (25-20 and 25-13) and the always tenacious Scarborough Titans in pool play (25-19 and 25-18). This set up a quarter-final match with fierce rival Durham Attack. Eclipse won the first set 25-18 but faltered in the second (17-25) as team setter Karlina went down with a bad ankle injury. The team regrouped and took the third set 15-7 to advance to a semi-final matchup with pre-tournament number one seed Forest City Green.
Hungry to prove their merit, the Eclipse team jumped to an early lead in the first set (25-8). The experienced Forest City team bounced back in the second set before succumbing 25-19 to the relentless Eclipse attack. The gold medal match pitted Eclipse against Leaside Lighting. As in the semi-final game, Eclipse jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-10. The second set was more competitive but the Eclipse ladies would not concede and won 25-19 to capture the gold medal.

U17 Eclipse Volleyball gives back to the Community
Friday December 21st, 2012 was not only the start of the holidays for students in Ontario, it was also the start of the Annual Holiday Dinner and Gift Exchange for the U17 Eclipse Volleyball team. In lieu of gifts, the Girls of the Eclipse Volleyball Club demonstrated the true meaning of the Holiday Season by donating unwrapped toys to the CHUM FM Christmas Toy Drive. Through a “Secret Santa” exchange, girls on the team were given the task of finding a toy for someone else on the team, something they would have enjoyed when they were between the ages of 6-12 years. They were to write a paragraph as to why they chose the gift for the particular teammate and after opening the gift, the athlete had to choose which teammate purchased the gift for them. The toy was then donated to the CHUM FM Toy Drive. “The U17 Girls volleyball team was exposed to the importance of charity and selfless giving, especially during this time of the year,” said coach Nathoo.
“Christmas is a time for giving and it is important to help those less fortunate,” said Nareesa.
“It really feels good to give gifts to those who may not have anything,” said Nareesa.
All in all the evening was a huge success. Good Food, Good Company and a Great IDEA!! The team, including the parents, bonded together through dinner and gift exchange while making a difference in the community. Congratulations girls. |
