U16 Eclipse Volleyball gives back to the Community
Friday December 23rd, 2011 was not only the start of the holidays for students in Ontario, it was also the start of the Second annual Holiday Dinner and Gift Exchange for the U16 Eclipse Volleyball team. However, in lieu of gifts, the Girls of the Eclipse Volleyball Club demonstrated the true meaning of the Holiday Season by donating unwrapped toys to the Toronto Firefighter’s Christmas Toy Drive. Through a “Secret Santa” exchange, girls on the team were given the task of finding a toy for someone else on the team, something they would have enjoyed when they were between the ages of 8-12 years. They were to write a paragraph as to why they chose the gift for the particular teammate and after opening the gift, the athlete had to choose which teammate purchased the gift for them. This proved to be a difficult task as this age group is often missed with toy drives and finding toys for this age group is difficult. However, the Eclipse Girls were up for the challenge and once again were extremely successful. “The U16 Girls volleyball team was exposed to the importance of charity and selfless giving, especially during this time of the year,” said coach Nathoo.
“Christmas is a time for giving and it is important to help those less fortunate,” said Nareesa.
“It really feels good to give gifts to those who may not have anything,” said Sheridan.
All in all the evening was a huge success. Good Food, Good Company and a Great IDEA!! The team, including the parents, bonded together through dinner and gift exchange while making a difference in the community. Congratulations girls. You’ve truly represented the Eclipse Volleyball Club well, both on and off the court.

Ryerson University hosts Eclipse Volleyball Club |

Eclipse East and West at Ryerson
Head Coach Arif Nathoo organized a fun and exciting afternoon for the East and West Eclipse Volleyball girls at Ryerson University on Sunday October 30, 2011. Ryerson was playing against Lakehead University in an OUA league match up. The girls were able to watch an intense game of volleyball between 2 university teams.
The highlight of the day came when Eclipse East and West played on the University of Ryerson gym mimicking an actual live game. They were proud to stand in front of the Canadian flag while our national anthem commenced the start of the games. They had official scorekeepers, linesmen, announcers and billboards with all their names lit up on the university wall. They even had cool music in between time outs and matches which added a flare of enthusiasm and buzz amongst the players and parents. To top it off a Ryerson journalism student did an interview with our girls for the University newspaper. One of the parents on the Eclipse East team commented, “Thanks for getting us all out to that game and having the exhibition with West! The Girls absolutely loved the event!!! They talked about the special feeling they got from the National Anthem to the professional atmosphere. Oh and did I mention how much they loved the music? Thanks a million!”
These are some of the unique “special” touches coach Arif adds to his Club to allow the girls to experience more than OVA competition. Not only are the girls exposed to high caliber competition, coaching and a positive environment, but they are learning lifelong skills they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Thanks head coach Arif and Amanda and assistant coaches Vicki, Lisa, Natasha and Steve for bringing quality coaching and dedication to the Eclipse club. |
